The HB916 isn’t just a 160mm rear travel bike—it’s an entirely new breed. While it may seem like the next iteration of the HB160, it carries a unique DNA, making it stand out as a bike of its own.
Designed specifically for Enduro Racing, the HB916 is engineered to excel across diverse terrains, from Scottish moors to Alpine descents. Whether it's a fast 2-minute sprint or a challenging 20-minute mega stage, this bike ensures speed and performance throughout.
Our goal was to create a bike that is efficient, balanced, and predictable. The HB916 saves riders precious energy on long races, empowering them to push harder and make critical moves when it matters most.
Updates for HB916 V2
The 2024 HB916 features a number of updates aimed at elevating the performance and building on the success of the original bike.
The biggest update is the compatibility with Sram T-Type, made possible with the integration of an additional lower pulley. This innovation effectively mitigates lower chain run growth while enhancing dynamic kinematics, ensuring smoother rides and optimized power transfer.
Despite these updates, the 2024 HB916 maintains its versatility by retaining compatibility with non t-type drivetrains, catering to diverse riding preferences with either 52 or 55mm chainlines,. Moreover, the larger sizes now come equipped with extended chainstays, guaranteeing a consistent geometry balance across all sizes for enhanced stability and control.
In addition to the performance upgrades, the 2024 HB916 introduces a revamped butty box featuring a the Fidlock mechanism. This design not only ensures improved retention of essential gear but also simplifies access.
Aesthetically, the 2024 HB916 will come with updated color options, and build options featuring Ohlins suspension and SRAM XO transmission.
GEOMETRY: The frame is available in four sizes, labeled H1 (smallest) to H4 (largest). Its geometry is designed for a balance of speed and stability, featuring a long reach, slack head angle, and extended wheelbase while keeping the bike responsive and agile.
The steep effective seat tube angle (approximately 78°) offers an optimal pedaling position and a comfortable effective top tube length. The relatively short chainstay, combined with the rearward axle path, helps maintain control over the rear center length for balanced handling.
The generous reach provides ample space for the rider in an aggressive stance. The head angle can be fine-tuned from 64° to 63.2° by swapping the upper headset cup. Additionally, the seatstay-based flip chip enables the bike to be converted to a Mullet setup while preserving most of the original geometry, as the key angles remain largely unaffected.
The suspension kinematic marks a departure from our previous models by incorporating a mid-high pivot design along with a concentric rear pivot. This updated architecture enhances suspension performance and improves overall ride dynamics.
The high pivot enables a rearward axle path, which enhances bump absorption and traction on long-travel bikes, giving a smooth "magic carpet" sensation. To mitigate the drawback of increased pedal kickback from the high pivot, a chain idler pulley is used. This feature not only reduces pedal kickback but also allows precise tuning of anti-squat characteristics for better pedaling efficiency.
The rear axle path isn't entirely rearward throughout the full 160mm of travel, unlike some higher pivot bikes. This results in less variation in rear center length, keeping the bike's geometry more balanced. The linear leverage curve offers 26% progression, making the bike compatible with both coil and air shocks for versatility in suspension setup.
THE FRAME: The entire frame is manufactured in-house at our Barnoldswick factory. The front triangle is built as a single piece, while the chain and seat stays use a hybrid design combining aluminum and carbon. This construction allows pivot bearings to be mounted in aluminum, ensuring they are spaced as widely as possible to enhance durability and extend bearing life.
The frame includes internal cable routing, rubber protection, and integrated down tube storage, affectionately called the "Butty Box" in a nod to northern culture. The 2024 model features an upgraded Fidlock mechanism for improved storage functionality. Additionally, the design ensures that a water bottle fits comfortably within the front triangle.
